Nritya Nirantar - An Endless Dance

Guru Mulla Afsar Khan will begin the performance with a Vandana, an invocatory to the almighty. Followed by a presentation of the technical aspects of Kathak and finishing the performance with a Tarana. The audience will experience a traditional Kathak repertoire.

Artist Biography

Mulla Afsar Khan
Born into a musical family in Pune, Mulla Afsar Khan was initiated into Kathak Dance at an early age by his father Guru Mulla Jafar Khan of the Banaras Gharana. After years of rigorous training under his father, Afsar Khan joined Kathak Kendra in New Delhi where he was under the tutelage of Guru Pt. Rajendra Gangani, an exponent of the Jaipur Gharana.

Performances, Choreographies and teaching
Afsar has an extensive range of teaching and performing experience around the world, a testament to both his talent and passion. A soloist in his own right, Afsar started performing at the age of five at the Guru Purnima Mahotsav in Pune. Since then he has performed extensively in India and abroad.

Uday Shankar Dance Festival (Delhi), Heritage Festival (Patiala), Konark Festival (Orissa), Kathak Mahotsav (Delhi, Jaipur), Vasant Mahotsav (Delhi), Hurda Festival (Aurangabad & Indore), Surya Festival (Trivandrum), Pune Festival, Taj Mahotsav (Agra), Rajasthan Diwas, Jhansi Mahotsav, the Ras-Rang festival (Lucknow) etc.

U.S.A (Fall for Dance, New York City Centre; Incredible India, Lincoln Centre New York; Asian-Alaskan Cultural Centre, Alaska), Australia (Perth International Art Festival), Moscow, Holland, Dubai, Germany, Belgium (Bozar Festival, Brussels) Spain, China, Japan, Polland, Libya, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Africa, Indonesia, Nepal and Bangladesh on I.C.C.R tours. He has also conducted workshops in India and abroad through Spic Macy, SNA, ICCR, SKP to name a few.

Afsar has trained hundreds of students in India and Abroad with great dedication and is well known for the bond he shares with his students. He has presented his students in a variety of events including; Annual Student Nights (Uday Utsav, Pratibimb and Atma-Mantan) featuring more than 150 students; various Kathak Repertoires by students in a number of events including Kalavaibhavm, Indian Arts Festival, Indian High Commission events, Incredible India events etc.
