The Silk Road by Gabriella Bonino

Gabriella Bonino is an Italian Sinologist who has lived and worked in China for almost 30 years. She studied Chinese at ISMEO (Italian Institute for Middle and Far East) in Turin and earned a BA in Chinese at the Beijing Language Institute in 1989. In 1990-91 she studied Chinese Art and Crafts History at the Beijing Central Art and Crafts Academy.

From 1989 to 2014, Ms. Bonino worked in the Italian Department of China Radio International, hosting a program which received the prestigious China News Award in 2012. 

She is currently teaching Broadcasting at the Institute of  Science of Communications at Wenzhou Business College, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province.

In addition to her work in the field of broadcasting, Gabriella Bonino is also a published author: a bilingual (Italian/Chinese) collection of her programs, La Cina ai miei occhi (“China in my eyes”), know in Chinese as 当代女马可.波罗的中国日志 (“The China diary of a contemporary Marco Polo”) was published in Beijing in 2010; five years later, in her native Italy, she published Alla scoperta della Via della Seta: dalle carovane all’alta velocità (“Discovering the Silk Road: From Caravans to High Speed Trains”).

These days, Gabriella Bonino is working on a new book about the Maritime Silk Road.

She loves the rich tradition of arts-and-crafts, very much enjoys traveling on her own, and takes every opportunity she can to spend time outdoors in Nature.
